Halloween game ideas for kids

Halloween is one of my favorite times of yearโ€”I mean, who doesnโ€™t love an excuse to dress up, eat way TOO MUCH candy, and get a little silly? ๐Ÿคช

If youโ€™re planning a Halloween party for kids (or just want to make the season extra fun at home), games are the secret ingredient to making memories that last.

Halloween game ideas for kids

Iโ€™ve rounded up 30 Halloween games for kids that are easy to set up, budget-friendly, and guaranteed to keep the little ones entertained.

Some are high-energy (great for burning off that sugar rush), while others are calmer, which is nice if you want a breather in between. Most only require supplies you probably already have lying around.

Classic Halloween Games With A Twist

1. Pumpkin Bowling

Set up toilet paper rolls decorated as ghosts, stack them like bowling pins, and let kids roll a small pumpkin to knock them down. Itโ€™s funny, a little messy, and one of those games thatโ€™s just as fun for the grown-ups to watch as it is for the kids to play.

2. Pin the Hat on the Witch

A Halloween spin on โ€œPin the Tail on the Donkey.โ€ Blindfolded kids try to stick a paper witch hat onto a witch poster. Itโ€™s simple, but the crooked hat placements always get giggles.

3. Candy Corn Spoon Relay

Give each child a spoon and some candy corn, then have them race across the room without dropping any. The best part? If the candy corn falls, it doesnโ€™t breakโ€”it just gets picked back up, and the race continues.

4. Pumpkin Ring Toss

Use glow stick bracelets or rope rings and try to land them over pumpkin stems. This one works indoors or outdoors, and if you dim the lights, the glowing rings make it extra cool.

5. Mummy Wrap Race

Kids split into pairs and race to wrap their partner in toilet paper like a mummy. The fun comes when the toilet paper inevitably rips and everyone ends up laughing at the lopsided mummies.

Active & Energy-Burning Games

6. Monster Freeze Dance

Put on a spooky playlist and let kids dance their hearts out. When the music stops, they have to freeze like a monster. Youโ€™ll see everything from zombie poses to werewolf howlsโ€”itโ€™s hilarious.

7. Spider Crawl Races

Kids race across the floor on hands and feet in a โ€œcrab walkโ€ or โ€œspider crawl.โ€ Iโ€™ve done this one before, and trust meโ€”it looks easier than it is!

8. Zombie Tag

In this version of tag, the person whoโ€™s โ€œitโ€ is a zombie. Once they tag someone, that person becomes a zombie too. By the end, youโ€™ve got a whole pack of little zombies chasing each other.

9. Witch Hat Ring Toss

Halloween games for kids

DIY a cone-shaped witch hat out of cardboard, place it on the floor, and let kids toss rings onto it. Itโ€™s simple to make but feels like a carnival-style game.

10. Pumpkin Patch Stomp

Fill orange balloons with candy, confetti, or small toys, then scatter them around. Kids stomp the โ€œpumpkinsโ€ to find the surprises inside. Itโ€™s noisy but always a crowd-pleaser.

11. Guess Whatโ€™s Inside the Cauldron

Fill bowls with โ€œgrossโ€ textures like cold spaghetti (worms), peeled grapes (eyeballs), or wet sponges (brains). Blindfold kids and let them reach insideโ€”thereโ€™s always a mix of screams and laughter.

12. Eyeball Spoon Race

Draw pupils on ping pong balls to make โ€œeyeballs,โ€ then have kids balance them on spoons while racing. Itโ€™s a silly twist on an egg-and-spoon race and surprisingly competitive.

13. Pumpkin Tic-Tac-Toe

Mini pumpkins

Paint mini pumpkins in two different colors and play tic-tac-toe on a board made of tape or chalk. Itโ€™s simple, hands-on, and doubles as a cute decoration.

14. Feed the Monster

Cut a big hole in a cardboard box for the monsterโ€™s mouth, paint on silly features, and let kids toss beanbags inside. You can even give the monster a silly nameโ€”kids love it.

15. Witchโ€™s Broom Limbo

Hold a broomstick and play limbo with spooky music. Lower the broom each round until youโ€™ve got kids bending and giggling their way to the floor.

16. Ghost Cup Knockdown

Kiddie Halloween Party Games

Stack paper cups decorated as ghosts into a pyramid, then let kids knock them down with a soft ball. Itโ€™s safe, easy, and perfect for little ones who canโ€™t join the bigger games yet.

17. Pumpkin Hunt

Hide mini pumpkins (or even pumpkin cutouts) around the yard or house for kids to find. Itโ€™s like an Easter egg hunt but with a Halloween twist. Here’s a FREE printable of 6 mini pumpkins, simply download, print (as many times as you like!) and cut them out.

18. Halloween Memory Match

Print out cards with pairs of Halloween imagesโ€”pumpkins, bats, witchesโ€”and let kids flip and match. Itโ€™s great for quieter moments or younger kids who like a slower pace.

19. Pin the Nose on the Pumpkin

Draw a big pumpkin on a poster and let kids try to pin (or tape) the nose in the right place while blindfolded. Expect lots of silly placements!

20. Spider Web Walk

Use tape to create a spiderweb shape on the floor. Kids must walk along the โ€œwebโ€ without stepping off. Add a timer if you want a challenge.

Candy & Treat Games

21. Candy Corn Toss

Blindfold kids and have them guess which candy theyโ€™re eating. Itโ€™s harder than youโ€™d think when you canโ€™t see the wrapper!

Spooky Story & Quiet Games

26. Pass the Pumpkin

Like Hot Potato, but with a mini pumpkin. When the music stops, whoeverโ€™s holding the pumpkin is out.

27. Halloween Pictionary

Kids take turns drawing spooky words or characters, and the others have to guess. Think bats, haunted houses, or candy corn.

28. Would You Rather โ€“ Halloween Edition

Make this game even easier with my free printable! It comes with 18 spooky and silly Halloween โ€˜Would You Ratherโ€™ questionsโ€”perfect for kids, classrooms, or parties. Just print, cut, and play!

29. Scary Story Circle

Each child adds one sentence to a spooky (or silly) story. It usually turns out more goofy than scary, but thatโ€™s part of the charm.

30. Pumpkin Checkers

Use a checkerboard and play with candies or mini pumpkins as pieces. Snackable strategy at its best.

Halloween doesnโ€™t have to be complicated.

A few balloons, some pumpkins, and a bag of candy can turn into hours of entertainment when youโ€™ve got the right games lined up.

Iโ€™ve played some of these at family parties, and the kids always end up laughing, running around, and asking to play โ€œjust one more round.โ€
